Job Title: IRC31000 Medical Research Specialist

Summary
The Medical Research Specialist is responsible for accurately performing research projects according to established study design and procedures in the Tulane Center for Translational Research in Infection and Inflammation (CTRII). The successful candidate will help perform approved molecular biology, genetics, and biochemistry research projects according to defined protocols and procedures, as well as analyzing and interpreting data. Additional responsibilities include performing laboratory ordering and inventorying lab supplies through the Tulane on-line procurement system (SciQuest). The Specialist will also be responsible for occasional equipment, shipping, and general laboratory maintenance.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
SPECIAL REQUIRED ABILITY FOR INCUMBENTS WHO HAVE CONTACT OR EXPOSURE TO ANIMALS OR ANIMAL TISSUES:
- Ability to complete and pass successfully the required occupational health screening referenced in the University’s Animal Handler Health Surveillance Program on an annual basis.
REQUIRED BACKGROUND CHECK, PHYSICAL, AND DRUG SCREENING FOR INCUMBENTS WHO HAVE CONTACT OR EXPOSURE TO ANIMALS OR ANIMAL TISSUES:
Selected candidates must complete and pass a background check and an occupational health screening as a condition of employment. For identified jobs, a drug screening will also be required. The background investigation requires occupational health screening, and any required drug screening will be conducted after a conditional employment offer has been extended.
Required Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree
- Two years of directly related experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Science degree in chemistry, biology, or other basic science.
- Two years’ experience in mouse breeding and colony maintenance
- Experience in animal husbandry
- Genotyping skills
- Ability to work independently or with team members, and willingness to learn and take direction.
Compensation Information
